Lakers have about $62 million in cap space this coming summer.

Draft:
CLE pick: Draft a sharpshooter, say Kenrich Williams shooting 40% this year (1.3 million)

Free Agency:
1) Sign Paul George to max (30.6 million)
2) Resign Julius Randle 3yr/36mil (12 million)
3) Resign Isaiah Thomas to a 1yr/10mil (10 million)
4) Resign Brook Lopez for 2yr/16mil (8 million)
5) Use have of MLE on McDermott (2.5 million)
6) use remaining MLE on Frye (2.5 million)

Line-Up:
PG - Ball / Thomas / Payton
SG - Ingram / Hart
SF - George / McDermott / Williams
PF - Randle / Kuzma
C - Lopez / Zubac / Bryant

This really depends on if Isaiah is willing to be a 6th man and stay on a 10 million / year deal. Otherwise, we have a dynamic bench and loads of star power in our starting line.

Don't resign Lopez Frye or IT.

This is terrible.

3-point plan:

1st) LAL & IND
LAL trades 2017 #3 Pick, Jordan Clarkson, 2020 LAL 1st Round Pick, 2019 CHI 2nd Round Pick

IND trades Paul George

LAL does this to finally get their star player to build around. IND does this as they get a quality wing to build around, Tatum or JAckson, and a quality combo guard in Jordan Clarkson, plus future assets.

2nd) LAL & BKN
LAL trades 2017 HOU 1st Round Pick, Corey Brewer, 2022 LAL 2nd Round Pick

BKN trades Brook Lopez

LAL does this to finally get a defensive force down in the post, a perfect complement for Julius. BKN was asking for a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick and want to build for the future.

3rd) LAL, PHX, MIN
LAL trades Luol Deng
LAL receives Brandon Knight

PHX trades Brandon Knight
PHX receives Nikolai Pekovic

MIN trades Nikolai Pekovic
MIN receives Luol Deng

LAL does this to fill the void left by Clarkson and to get rid of Deng's contract. MIN does this to have a veteran presence that knows their current system and to get rid of Pekovic. PHX does this to acquire an expiring contract for Knight's contract, a guy that never plays anyway but still makes a boat load of money.

Next, LAL resigns Nick Young as a back-up wing as he wants to be in LA, keeps Tyler Ennis as a reserve, and signs Omri Casspi as a reserve.

PG - Russell / Knight / Ennis
SG - Ingram / Nwaba
SF - George / Young / Casspi
PF - Randle / Nance
C - Lopez / Zubac / Mosgov

Our wing defense will be one of the best in the league in a year or two with Ingram and George. If Russell can't handle a Westbrook type player, put George or Ingram on him. Our offense is impeccable with countless options. Our bench gets a little worse but is still more than capable with offensive pieces in Knight, Young, and Zubac and defensive prowess in Nance and Nwaba.

Prediction: 4th-5th Seed

Minnesota wants no part of Deng's contract. Lakers are stuck with him.

2.) 29 Mar 2017 23:37:04
Minnesota could take Deng. Thibs had interest in him early this season due to his veteran presence.

3.) 30 Mar 2017 23:15:31
shotss- that was free agency, before the Lakers decided to give him $72 million. Minnesota was looking at him for 7-10 mil per year for 3 years, not 18 per for 4 years.

Say, we get the third pick in the draft and Fultz and Ball are gone. We should get Jackson, and package him, the 28th pick, and Clarkson for Paul George. Next, do a three team trade with PHX and MIN - LAL gets Brandon Knight, MIN gets Deng and future 2nd round pick, PHX gets Pekovic (expiring contract) and 2017 LAL 1st round pick. Then, with the 32nd pick, we draft Frank Mason III as a backup PG (crazy stats at KU this year). Resign Nick and Tarik to two year 20 million dollar deals. Sign Nwaba to a 3 year 15 million dollar deal. With Brewer's contract off the books in 2018, sign Boogie. This is all contigent on us keeping that top 3 pick (and in turn 2018 1st round pick).

2017-18:
PG - Russell / Knight / Mason
SG - Ingram / Young / Nwaba
SF - George / Brewer
PF - Randle / Nance
C - Zubac / Black / Mosgov
6th-8th seed team

2018-19:
PG - Russell / Knight / Mason
SG - Ingram / Nwaba
SF - George / Young
PF - Randle / Nance
C - Cousins / Zubac / Black*
2nd-5th seed team
(*trade Mosgov for 2nd round pick as his contract would only be for 2 years at that point)

Lakers are not trading there 2017 first round pick along with Deng, and a future seconder to the Suns for Brandon Knight. That's not happening. Nwaba is on a 10 day contract. He is just filling a roster spot. Might be around for training camp. No need to give somebody worth the minimum a $5M a year contract.

So, I know a lot of people won't like this trade and would want to wait until the 2018 to sign PG, but I feel like that is a huge risk, considering the offers the Pacers received this past week from the Nuggets especially. Here's my idea:

Draft:
(3rd pick) - Josh Jackson
(27th pick) - Monte Morris
(33rd pick) - whoever Indiana
wants

Trade:
Josh Jackson, Jordan Clarkson,
and 33rd pick for Paul George

Free Agency:
Resign Nick Young for 3 years
30 million
Sign Darren Collison for 3
years 42 million

I'd prefer to keep Tarik and/or Thomas, but those "bad" contracts of Mosgov and Deng restrict us.

Line-up:
PG - Russell / Collison / Morris
SG - George / Young
SF - Ingram / Deng / Brewer
PF - Randle / Nance
C - Zubac / Mosgov / ??

Collison would give us just as much production as Clarkson each night. Young wants to be in LA and will likely want to resign. Defensively, we will be above average on the wings and slightly below average down low. I can see us being a 5th-7th seed next season with this roster. If we don't do the trade, I see us as the Nuggets 2.0 with a bunch of quality guys but no star - i.e. 8-10th seed. Russell will develop into a star not next season but probably the season after; Randle will be more or less the same; Ingram will need 2 years at least; Clarkson has peeked in my opinion - optimal 6th man.

Here is a similar idea to my last. I have a feeling we won't land Whiteside as he'll stay in Miami. Durant and other superstars are not coming. I feel that trading for a big name isn't the best idea since we won't contend with only that one star - throwing away our future isn't ideal. Golden States wants to keep Barnes; however, they can't afford Barnes and Ezeli. I would suggest focusing on Ezeli and then filling out the roster with a strong supporting cast.

1) Draft Brandon Ingram (58 million left)
2) Draft AJ Hammons (57 million left)
3) Stretch Nick Young and save 3 million (60 million left)
4) Sign Festus Ezeli to a solid deal (45 million left)
5) Resign Jordan Clarkson to a 4 year 48 million deal (33 million left)
6) Sign Evan Turner to a 3 year 30 million deal (23 million left)
6) Sign Ian Mahimni to a 3 year 27 million deal (14 million left)
7) Sign Kent Bazemore to a 3 year 30 million deal (4 million left)
8) Resign Marcelo Huertas to a 2 year 2 million deal (2 million left)
9) Resign Tarik Black to a 2 year 2 million deal (0 left)

Lineup:
PG - D'Angelo Russell / Lou Williams / Marcelo Huertas
SG - Jordan Clarkson / Kent Bazemore
SF - Brandon Ingram / Evan Turner / Anthony Brown
PF - Juluis Randle / Larry Nance Jr. / Tarik Black
C - Festus Ezeli / Ian Mahimni / AJ Hammons.
