Magics mission is to try to unload Deng. Randle and Clarkson are the only pieces that should be aloud to leave. Both are solid role players but not star quality. And both can't play D. And both are pricey for the contributions. Randle will be restricted next year and obtain $12+ mill. Clarkson is $11 mill and Deng $15+. That's $35+ in future salaries. Unload them. Free up all the cap space we can for the next two off seasons. It's their plan. How does knowone else see this? If we can dump them for expiring contracts this season then we have so much cap space moving forward. Popes $18 mill.
Lopez' $22.5. That's $75 million in cap space. You can sign 3 maxes if they sign at a low max in order to form a super team. Plus have Ball, Ingram, Zubac, Nance, Kuzma, Hart, and Bryant.

Problem with that plan is that there are no reason to think we will attract 3 max players. I don't see George coming here unless they have a horrible season in OKC and the Lakers are close to .500. I understand that we need to get rid of Dengs contract but if nobody signs we get rid of some young talent for nothing. I still think Magic jumped the gun with Russell. If nobody sings next year and Lopez leaves we got rid of Russell for nothing. And with the west getting stronger one star won't make us a contender.

Don't see that as his current mission. Deng is a productive player still unlike Mozgov and he can match current NBA. Best bet is to wait another year when teams will be willing to take him on for his 2 remaining years/ buyout his contract for less or to wait until the trade deadline in February. Depending on how good Randle, Nance plays, Lakers can unload him with Randle at the deadline and start Nance.
